ALG’s Year of Giving

2020 was a year full of challenges and hardships for many people and businesses, including members of our own team here at Arnett Law Group, LLC. After getting through last year by leaning on each other and finding support in our community, we have decided to pay it forward. As such, we are pleased to announce the creation of “ALG’s Year of Giving”.

Every month this year, ALG is going to donate to a different organization on behalf of each member of our team. Ranging from local nonprofits to national organizations, each person will have the opportunity to give back to a cause that is near and dear to their heart. We will share information about the organization’s mission and activities, as well as the reasons why the member has selected this cause. We hope that by sharing our journey this year, we can add some light to a world that can often feel dark.

The first two organizations of the year were selected by our founder, Daniel J. Arnett, to give the other team members time to put serious thought into their selections. For the month of January, we made a donation to The McGaw YMCA in Evanston, Illinois. The McGaw YMCA was founded in 1885 to “promote mental, moral, physical and social welfare.”[1] Through a wide range of programs, The McGaw YMCA seeks to: (1) maximize the potential of all youth, (2) improve health outcomes and decrease chronic disease throughout its service area, and (3) address issues of inequality and engage in collective impact.[2]

One way The McGaw YMCA remains true to that mission is through maintaining its Men’s Residence. As a member of the board, Mr. Arnett is familiar with the wide range of programs offered and finds the Men’s Residence to be one of the most inspiring parts of the McGaw YMCA. Here, nearly 200 men find safety from housing instability. Each man faces his own personal circumstances and challenges, but each can receive access to support for their social, emotional, and life-skills needs at The McGaw YMCA.[3] The Men’s Residence is a place of comfort, strength, and community that allows these men a safe environment to focus on their personal growth.[4]

For the month of February, we are donating to Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.). O.U.R.’s purpose is to eradicate sex trafficking permanently. Inspired by the anti-slavery tactics employed during the creation of the original Underground Railroad, they have made a significant impact in the fight to end sex trafficking and exploitation by rescuing and supporting thousands of survivors in 28 countries and 26 U.S. States.[5] Not only do they focus on rescuing survivors and convicting their perpetrators, but they partner with aftercare centers around the world to help survivors transition into their new lives through therapy and other support services.[6] O.U.R. has gathered experts in extraction operations and anti-child trafficking including “former CIA, past and current law enforcement, and highly skilled operatives that lead coordinated identification and extraction efforts.” [7]

Both of these organizations are focused on creating better lives for the individuals they serve and we hope our donation can help them continue their important work. If you wish to get involved in your own way, you can support The McGaw YMCA by making a donation to the organization or by shopping their Amazon wish list to provide their residents with much needed food (see links below). You can support Operation Underground Railroad by making a donation, volunteering, or participating in training to recognize the signs of trafficking (see link below).

Stay tuned over the next ten months as we continue to share updates on our Year of Giving!
